ABOUT PRODUCTID 30623
This decorative figurine from the 1950s, designed by Jaroslav Brychta for the Železný Brod glassworks in Czechoslovakia, exemplifies postwar Central European design. The composition features two stylized elephants in a warm, light beige matte finish, one of which carries a small dark-skinned figure holding a red parasol. The elephants display simplified, rounded shapes, white tusks, and gently glossy glass surfaces. The palm trees are made of plastic, with segmented brown trunks and large, matte green leaves accented by red fruit. The entire scene rests on a plastic base in gradient green tones imitating grass, with a small, colorfully detailed bush. Materials include hand-formed glass (for the animals and figure) and molded plastic (for the palm trees and base). The figurine remains in excellent condition, with no visible chips, cracks or repairs; the colors are vibrant, and all components appear original. There is a note of optimism from the 1950s in this miniature scene, when fairy-tale motifs and simplified forms offered respite from the hardships of the war years. Jaroslav Brychta, a pioneer of artistic glass in Central Europe, often expressed joyful spirit and childlike imagination in his designs. The elephants, with their softly drawn lines and naive proportions, seem to tell a story of exotic dreams cherished by the people of postwar Czechoslovakia—a world seen through the eyes of a child
