ABOUT PRODUCTID 41001
The decorative platter 'Oberek' represents Polish design from 1948–1954, crafted in porcelain by the Ćmielów and Chodzież factories and based on a design by Zofia Stryjeńska. Characteristic of the Art Deco style, the platter features a flat mirror surface with a slightly raised, rounded rim and a wide, deep orange-red border that gives the piece a modern, rhythmic edge. The central motif, produced using a ceramic transfer technique, depicts a dynamic scene of the oberek dance from Stryjeńska’s iconic 'Polish Dances' series—a vibrant couple in traditional folk costumes, enclosed within an irregular geometric field outlined by a delicate gold line. The color palette spans white, deep orange, red, yellow, green, and blue, accented with gold. The underside bears the manufacturer's signature and a hole for safe wall mounting. Diameter: 32 cm, height: 4 cm. The platter is preserved in very good condition, with no chips, cracks, or paint loss. This platter’s form tells the story of Polish applied arts, where folkloric motifs meet modernist discipline. Stryjeńska, a master of the national Art Deco style, translated the dynamic movement of the oberek into the language of color, rhythm, and contrast: the white background and geometric frame highlight the scene’s expressiveness, while the intense orange border encircles the composition like a dancer’s swirl. Though ceramic, the piece seems to pulse with energy and color, inviting a dialogue between Polish tradition and modernism. The platter may be displayed on the wall as a standalone decorative object, especially in spaces inspired by Art Deco, collector’s eclecticism, or contemporary interiors
