The WMF desk candlestick from the early 20th century exemplifies Art Nouveau metal craftsmanship, where classical form meets organic ornamentation. Made of highly polished brass with a rich golden sheen, it features a sculptural base adorned with a repoussé pattern reminiscent of pinecone scales and four short, fluted feet referencing vegetal motifs typical of the Art Nouveau era. The slender stem leads to a wide drip tray with a beaded edge, while the cylindrical candle holder is proportioned for a standard taper candle. The object is crafted with remarkable precision, showing no visible screws or joints, reflecting the technical mastery of the German WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik) manufactory. The maker's mark, depicting an ostrich silhouette within a horseshoe, attests to its authenticity and provenance.
