The Aachen desk clock, made in Germany in the 1980s, exemplifies late modernist design. Its compact, rectangular form features a matte black and anthracite case, offset by a brushed metallic bezel encircling the dial. The minimalist face is free of numerals, displaying only slim white hour markers and geometric hands—silver-toned for hours and minutes, paired with a bold red seconds hand. A burgundy-velvet panel decorates the lower front, silkscreened with the manufacturer’s logo in white, introducing a period-appropriate textural contrast. The clock is powered by a quartz movement with a single AA battery. Precision manufacture is evident in the factory-cut edges and tightly joined panels. The structure combines metal, plastic, and a velour textile accent.
