ABOUT PRODUCTID 6921
The H 180 desk, designed by Jindrich Halabala in the 1930s, is a refined example of Central European modernism at its peak. The construction balances a solid left pedestal with four drawers—each front clad in a striking, burled veneer with swirling grain in golden brown and amber hues—against an open, airy right side supported by a bent, chromed tubular leg. The desktop and side shelf are crafted from dark, polished wood with a subtle semi-gloss sheen, conveying both solidity and a meticulous attention to detail. Simple, horizontal chrome handles emphasize the geometric lines, while the contrast of cool metal and warm wood reflects the era's functionalist ideals. The overall proportions are harmonious and the presence understated yet distinct. The desk is preserved in very good vintage condition: minor, superficial scratches and traces of use are visible, typical for an original 1930s piece, but there are no major damages or signs of restoration; materials and hardware appear original. This desk carries the voice of pre-war Prague—assertive, yet open to a dialogue between tradition and modernity. The chromed tube catches the light, evoking the optimism of the functionalist 1930s, when new materials set the pace of daily life. The figured wood grain on the drawer fronts unfolds in soft waves, a reminder that even in an age of progress, craftsmanship remained essential. The H 180 seems to whisper stories of an era when precision and practicality were as valued as visual harmony, and modernist functionalism possessed a human touch. The Halabala desk could be paired with a chromed-frame armchair or a Bauhaus
