ABOUT PRODUCTID 4614
This late 19th-century German desk inkwell, crafted after 1884, embodies the refined standards of European craftsmanship of its era. Its square base (7.6 × 7.6 cm) features thick, faceted crystal glass, paired with 800 silver mounts including a domed, capsule-shaped lid engraved with a heraldic crest and a polished, seamless collar. The underside is adorned with a geometric Viennese cut, while the sharply defined edges and harmonious proportions evoke a neoclassical aesthetic. The silver fittings bear German hallmarks, attesting to their authenticity post-1884. The construction is robust, free of visible screws or rivets, and the proportions are classically balanced. Inkwell is in excellent condition: no chips, cracks or clouding, with the silver retaining its original luster and the glass remaining clear. This inkwell tells the story of an era when everyday objects were statements of taste and status. The transparent crystal reflects light, accentuating the purity of its lines and subtle details—so that each movement of the writer’s hand seems to gain additional weight. The engraved crest on the lid recalls personal lineage and tradition, while the Viennese cut on the base sketches a geometric map of a bygone age. The object carries the atmosphere of a focused study,
