The Sigma bakelite desk lamp, designed by Christian Dell for Heinrich Römmler AG in the 1930s, embodies the early modernist and functionalist ideals characteristic of German Bauhaus. The entire lamp is crafted from dark brown, almost black Bakelite with a uniform, glossy finish that subtly reflects light. This model features a large, hemispherical shade and a robust, arched arm, both with soft, rounded lines. The rectangular base with gently curved edges provides stability, while the visible, circular joints allow the shade angle to be adjusted. The original fabric-wrapped power cord is typical of the era. The lamp is preserved in good, original condition, with a minor repair mark on the shade and no major damage or excessive wear. This lamp echoes the spirit of the 1930s: austere yet filled with the utopian aspirations of Bauhaus. Its smooth surface and pronounced geometric shapes recall a time when designers sought simplicity and durability in new materials.
