This desk lamp from Sölken Leuchten, made in Germany in the 1970s, is a defining example of Space Age design, constructed from golden-toned brass with a medium-to-high gloss finish. Its form is anchored by a heavy, hemispherical base that mirrors the domed, movable shade. The lamp’s slender arm extends precisely, held in place by a spherical counterweight, allowing for flexible light direction. Mechanically-exposed joints highlight the technical and industrial character typical of late modernist aesthetics, while the matte inner surface of the lampshade ensures optimal diffusion of the halogen light source (G6.25).
