This desk lamp, designed by Josef Hurka for Napako in Czechoslovakia during the 1960s, exemplifies the clarity and utility of Central European modernism. The conical shade, rendered in a cool and vibrant white, is made from metal with a highly reflective, glossy finish that gently disperses light across its surface. The shade’s bold, flared base gives the lamp a graphic silhouette. The frame and arm are crafted from polished, chrome-plated steel, bent into a slightly curved, geometric format with softly rounded transitions and a horizontally positioned base. The visible metal screw at the junction between the arm and shade is a purposeful, industrial detail of the era. The composition balances simplicity of form with sculptural accents. A visible black cord with an inline switch completes the design, underscoring its original and functional character. The lamp is preserved in very good original condition, with only minor paint loss on the edge of the shade and undamaged chrome; the electrical installation has been replaced with new components.
