ABOUT PRODUCTID 1044
This mid-century modern desk, designed by Torbjørn Afdal for the Norwegian manufacturer Bruksbo in the 1960s, stands as a distinguished example of Scandinavian design from that era. The construction features rosewood veneer in a deep, warm brown with reddish undertones, highlighting the expressive natural grain of the wood. All visible surfaces are veneered on both sides, allowing the desk to be positioned at the center of a room. The piece stands on slender, tapering legs; on each side are symmetrical drawer blocks—on the left, three horizontal drawers with sculpted, integrated handles and a lock; on the right, a deep file drawer with a distinctive, rarely seen internal divider and a matching handle. The joinery is precise, with grain-matched fronts and gently rounded corners. The surface is smooth, free of visible signs of wear, chips, or damage; all elements, including legs and handles, retain their original character. Condition: carefully restored and oiled, with no visible defects. The form of this desk articulates the restraint and rationality of Scandinavian design in the 1960s. The smooth expanse of veneer and minimalist lines seem to echo the era’s quiet assertion: “function is equal to beauty.” Sculpted
