This original 1960s Soviet desk ornament commemorates the launch of Sputnik, the world's first artificial satellite. The piece features a hemispherical metal base with a glossy gold finish, adorned with embossed outlines of continents and the inscription '1957г. CCCP' on the front. The base rests on a thin, matte black circular plinth, likely made of plastic or painted metal. Rising from the base is a stylized, metallic silver Cyrillic inscription 'Мир' (Peace), to which a small, brushed-metal Sputnik sphere with the 'CCCP' mark is attached. Only one of the original four thin metal antennas remains; three are missing. The overall aesthetic is distinctly Space Age, defined by its geometric lines and interplay of gold, silver, and black. The item shows minor signs of age on the metal surfaces, with no significant damage or restoration; the main imperfection is the absence of three antennas. Preserved in good condition.
