This monumental Italian Art Deco desk set from the 1930s exemplifies the era’s pursuit of harmony between material and form. The central element is a heavy, rectangular base crafted from Nero Portoro marble, prized for its intense black tone interlaced with gold, honey, and beige veining. Two lidded marble inkwell cubes anchor the composition, flanked by a geometric rocker blotter with a matching marble handle and a letter or card holder with two slender, patinated brass arches. The thick marble slabs feature precisely beveled edges, and the highly polished surface accentuates the dramatic veining. Bold geometric shapes, stepped profiles, and a sense of symmetry give the set its unmistakable Art Deco presence. Brass details, mellowed by original patina, add a warm contrast to the stone’s rich chromatics.
