This Viennese desk set from the late 19th century is a rare composition featuring a bronze tray with a sculpted lizard, a candlestick, and a match holder. The tray is crafted from bronze, with a gently raised edge and a glossy, polished surface in a warm, medium brown with reddish undertones. At its center sits a naturalistic, life-sized lizard, finished with a greenish patina and rendered with finely detailed scales and lifelike proportions. The match holder is made of hammered, gilded brass, while the slender candlestick is also of polished brass with a classic silhouette and round base, reflecting influences of late historicism and early Art Nouveau. Organic lines and meticulous decorative details combine utilitarian function with sculptural form. The set is preserved in very good condition, displaying minimal signs of use and a well-maintained original patina, attesting to its authenticity and careful preservation.This object offers a glimpse into the refined atmosphere of Viennese salons at the turn of the 19th century, where craftsmanship and daily ritual intertwined.
