Designed by Mart Stam and produced in Czechoslovakia in the 1930s, this dining set consists of a round table and four cantilever chairs—two with armrests (model S43F), two without (S43). The seats and backs are molded from plywood in a deep, medium walnut shade, featuring a satin-matte finish that emphasizes the wood's natural grain. Both the table legs and chair frames use polished, chromed tubular steel, introducing a cool, industrial note that contrasts with the warmth of the wood. The distinctive Bauhaus cantilever structure gives the chairs a floating quality, as their absence of rear legs lends a sense of weightlessness. The steel tubing is smoothly bent and precisely joined, while the armrests are finished in matching walnut plywood.
