ABOUT PRODUCTID 36737
This porcelain dish, designed by Zofia Przybyszewska for the Ćmielów Porcelain Factory in 1957, is a striking example of Polish New Look design. Its organic, asymmetrical kidney-shaped form and softly rounded edges reflect the modernist aesthetics of the mid-20th century. The interior features a vivid, warm yellow glaze with a glossy finish, contrasted by a deep burgundy-brown exterior, also highly polished. A thin white rim separates the two colors, accentuating the dish’s elegant curvature and minimalist outline. The porcelain surface is smooth, impeccably polished, and bears the mark: Ćmielów Chodzież, Made in Poland. The low and wide proportions reinforce the modernist spirit of the era. Condition: very good, with no cracks, chips, or signs of restoration. This dish tells the story of 1950s Polish design, a time when postwar optimism encouraged bold experimentation with color and form. Its dynamic, sweeping lines evoke the lively rhythm of New Wave cinema, inviting daily rituals into a modernist setting. The intense yellow interior reflects light, infusing the space with energy and the optimism characteristic of the New Look, while the contrasting rim and burgundy base recall the search for harmony and clarity. This is a piece that speaks with the voice of Polish avant-garde: simplicity, courage, and a touch of expressive decoration. In an interior, the dish can be paired with other mid-century pieces, such as colored glass vases, ceramics in contrasting hues, or geometric placemats. It works well atop a light wooden table or on a modern shelf in the living room, where its organic silhouette and bold palette become a focal point. Whether
