ABOUT PRODUCTID 20203
This early 20th-century door knocker, dating to around 1900 and crafted in Austria, exemplifies Viennese Secessionist workmanship. The robust construction features a rectangular backplate with stepped edges and symmetrical ornamentation, while the trapezoidal handle is adorned with finely chased linear and spiral motifs. Made of gilded brass, the knocker presents a warm, saturated golden hue with a natural patina—subtly matte overall, but with glossy highlights on raised areas. The inscription "Ges. Gesch. M." (design protected) and catalog number 831 attest to its original registered status. The surface shows fine tooling marks, slight scratches, and gentle evidence of hand finishing, but no significant damage. Visible mounting holes and joinery confirm the piece’s solid build. The overall condition is very good—fully original, with no signs of restoration. The form of this knocker echoes the voice of Vienna’s Art Nouveau, a time when daily objects became carriers of new artistic ideas. Geometric lines, stylized Greek key motifs, and the softly gilded surface recall an era when even a door’s adornment told an architectural story. The tactile presence of the brass—worn by decades of use—retains an authentic, ceremonial quality, quietly inviting guests and residents alike. This door knocker
