ABOUT PRODUCTID 6915
This dressing table, designed by Jindřich Halabala and produced by UP Závody in Czechoslovakia in the 1940s, exemplifies Central European modernism in a refined form. The body is crafted from walnut-veneered wood in a deep, dark brown with reddish undertones, finished in a semi-gloss that highlights the natural wood grain. The design is based on streamlined, rounded edges and a symmetrical, geometric composition: four top storage compartments with curved lids and integrated wooden handles flank a central raised panel, the whole structure crowned by an undulating backrest. The lower section features two spacious, slightly convex drawers, each with vertically sculpted wooden handles. The craftsmanship is evident in the seamless veneer work, precise joinery, and absence of visible hardware. The surface is smooth, with a subtle patina. The piece is in very good condition – minor scratches and only the most delicate signs of use consistent with its age, with no major damages. Halabala's dressing table speaks of new beginnings: its soft lines and noble veneer evoke an era when attention to detail and respect for material were answers to the need for everyday comfort. The wavy backrest and integrated handles suggest a subtle dialogue between craft and modernity, with every element playing a considered role. The dressing table could be placed in a mid-century modern-inspired bedroom, ideally near a window to accentuate the depth of the veneer. It pairs well with an upholstered stool with rounded edges or a minimalist wall mirror to highlight its geometric balance. The piece also fits seamlessly into eclectic
