ABOUT PRODUCTID 9439
This dressing table with matching stool by White & Newton is a representative example of British 1960s design, crafted from teak wood with a prominent, natural grain and a subtle reddish undertone. The construction features clean, geometric lines typical of mid-century modern style. On each side, two cabinets hold three drawers, the top ones distinguished by vertical reeding, while all drawers have integrated, sculpted wooden handles. The legs are slim, tapered, and splayed, emphasizing the lightness of the form. A large, rectangular mirror in a teak frame sits atop the vanity and is adjustable. The stool is constructed from solid teak with matching tapered legs and features a newly upholstered seat in vibrant yellow fabric. The wood has been restored, finished with a rosewood-toned stain and protected with a semi-matte lacquer; the surface is smooth, with no visible signs of use. The mirror has been replaced with a new one, and the stool’s foam and upholstery have been refreshed. The set is in excellent condition, following a comprehensive restoration. The form of this dressing table evokes the spirit of British modernism: in its simplicity and carefully considered details, one can sense echoes of the 1960s, when Portsmouth stood as a hub for furniture innovation. The reeded drawers and the subtle teak sheen tell the story of an era when functionality was intertwined with understated elegance. The
