ABOUT PRODUCTID 37843
This hand-carved wooden duck decoy, dating from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, exemplifies the traditional craftsmanship of Northern or Central Europe. Its broad, flattened body and separately shaped, attached head were designed for practical use in waterfowl hunting. The dominant, cool brown is interspersed with remnants of original polychrome in black, white, and green—most visible on the wings and head. The matte finish reveals chisel marks, a rough tactile texture, and a rich patina, while hand-incised feather details and dark, inset eyes emphasize its folk, utilitarian character. Visible wood grain, age-related cracks, paint losses, and signs of old repairs all affirm the object's authenticity. The overall condition is very good for its age, with natural signs of use and time, and losses in polychromy consistent with the photographic documentation. The length of the piece is 45 cm.This object speaks of a world where everyday tools were crafted with care and purpose. The wooden duck, with its muted finish and vestiges of old paint, conjures images of misty mornings by the water and the patient anticipation of a hunter. Every scratch, every exposed layer of wood tells of time passing and artisanal patience, while the worn surface reveals stories of past hunts and a life close to nature. Over the years, the decoy has evolved from a functional item into a vessel of memory and a testament to the artistry of folk utility. The decoy may be
