This polychrome pugilares, dating from circa 1860–1880, is an ornate example of a decorative case from the Habsburg era. The rectangular, rounded-corner form is crafted from lacquered leather in a deep, warm black, its surface marked by fine craquelure typical of authentic 19th-century painted objects. The front features a hand-painted miniature genre scene: a man in a vivid red patterned robe and white turban, and a woman in a blue and white dress, both seated at a wooden table. The painting is characterized by vivid contrasts of red, blue, white, and flesh tones, with golden and brown accents in the background and table. The fittings and hinges are made of gilded brass, with a soft matte patina and subtle signs of wear; the interior is lined with silk, and the clasp functions smoothly.
