The Handelsmann eclectic tray, dating from the late 19th century, is a prime example of Polish applied arts from this era. Crafted from brass and finished with a layer of silver plate, it displays a cool, silvery tone with authentic patina and areas of natural oxidation. The central field is adorned with guilloché engraving—delicate, repetitive geometric and foliate motifs applied by engine turning. The ornate frieze on the rim features sharply defined leaf patterns in relief, while the sculpted handles echo stylized floral and natural forms, joined to the body with traditional soldering characteristic of 19th-century metalwork. The surface presents an interplay of matte and residual sheen, especially in the recesses, with visible silverplate loss revealing the brass substrate beneath, mostly at the tray's center. Numerous scratches, scuffs, and wear mark the piece, yet all elements remain original and structurally intact. Its good condition is typical of antique objects of this type and age, carrying visible period wear without significant structural damage.This tray evokes a late 19th-century sensibility—an era where historicist styles mingled with the earliest stirrings of Art Nouveau.
