This early 20th-century French desk inkwell (écritoire) exemplifies a historicist approach with distinct Belle Époque influences. Crafted from a block of green onyx, the base reveals a semi-translucent texture, marked by a subtle color gradient – deep green melting into beige and brown striations that lend the stone an organic, unique pattern. The beveled, softly rounded onyx corners rest upon four small, spherical brass feet, gently elevating the piece from the surface. Practical glass inserts complete the inkwells, offering both usability and a touch of period authenticity. Measuring 8 cm in height and 21 cm in width, the inkwell suits most desks or console surfaces. The condition is very good: only minor nicks to the onyx edges and a small chip to one of the glass inserts are apparent signs of age, with no major damage. This object subtly evokes the era when writing was a daily ritual and the desk stood as the center of household correspondence. The cool glow of onyx interplays
