This glazed ceramic egg container, model 984, was produced by Royal Dux Bohemia between 1918 and 1925 – a period marked by significant shifts in European design. Crafted from creamy white, high-gloss porcelain, the piece features a sculptural lid adorned with two newly hatched chicks among broken eggshells. Each detail, from the delicately molded feathers to the intricate basket weave on the body, reveals refined craftsmanship, while hand-applied gilding on the edges, beaks, and shells enhances its decorative character. The basket’s relief pattern heightens the impression of realism, and the container is signed with the blue heraldic triangle and “E” typical of the era, as well as the impressed model number. The container is preserved in excellent condition – the glazed surface shows no cracks or chips, and the gilding, though lightly patinated, remains almost entirely intact.
