This large faience elephant figurine was crafted by the A. Rottenberg Faience Factory in Radom, Poland, during the 1920s and 1930s. The sculpture is made entirely of glazed faience in a warm, creamy white shade with a glossy finish. Subtle surface details—such as the modeled skin folds, musculature, and delicately shaped tusks and trunk—reflect the simplified, geometric aesthetic characteristic of the Art Deco movement. The elephant stands on a rectangular base, also glazed in the same hue. Visible craquelure on the glaze attests to its age, and one of the tusks has been previously glued. The figurine is preserved in good condition, showing minor signs of use typical for its period and the mentioned tusk repair. The form of this piece was shaped by the interwar years, when Polish Art Deco craftsmanship sought a balance between stylization and practical elegance. Rottenberg's elephant—with its raised trunk and stylized, compact body—seems to tell the story of the optimism and aspirations of its era, when even decorative objects expressed a sense of attainable luxury in everyday life. The crackle in the glaze and the visible repair serve as tangible markers of time, underscoring the sculpture's authenticity and historical context.
