Produced in Austria in the 1950s and attributed to the Franz Hagenauer workshop, this ashtray is a fine example of mid-century modernism rooted in the tradition of Viennese design. The elliptical body, formed from solid brass, embraces a restrained minimalism, free of any additional ornament, signature, or branding. Gently rounded edges and precisely carved cigarette slots reveal a craftsman’s attention to functional clarity over overt decoration. The object gains distinction through its two-tone coloration: the rim and sculptural grooves display a warm, semi-matte golden brass finish with satiny highlights, while the interior bowl is covered in a forest green patina, variegated with lighter blue-green flecks and gentle speckling from oxidation. Discreet signs of use appear along the rim and inside surface, as is typical for authentic vintage pieces, but there are no major damages or restoration traces.
