ABOUT PRODUCTID 9574
This extendable table, designed by Nils Jonsson for the Swedish manufacturer Troeds Bjärnum in the 1960s, exemplifies Scandinavian mid-century modern design. Crafted from natural, medium-brown teak veneer with a subtle yet pronounced wood grain, the table balances refined proportions with functionality. The oval tabletop, featuring gently rounded edges and a discreetly integrated extension mechanism, can be expanded from 157 cm to 212 or 267 cm using two leaves, comfortably accommodating 10–12 people. The slim, slightly tapered legs emphasize the table’s visual lightness and the era’s characteristic simplicity. All joinery remains concealed, and the details are precisely executed. The semi-matte lacquer finish gives the surface a soft reflection of light without gloss. The table is in restored condition—its surface is smooth and uniform, with no visible signs of use. This table echoes the voice of 1960s Scandinavian freedom, when designers moved away from unnecessary ornamentation in favor of pure lines and practical beauty. The teak wood speaks to respect for both material and craft, while the oval shape invites communal gatherings. The thoughtful construction makes the table seem ready for long conversations and family feasts—calmly, with a sense of proportion and light. Everything here forms a quiet narrative of Swedish modernism, where function and aesthetics meet on equal terms. The table would suit a spacious dining room or living area in a mid-century modern style, especially alongside wooden chairs with organic lines or upholstered seating in subdued, natural tones. It could be paired with a simple sideboard, a lamp with a geometric shade, or accessories in ceramics and glass
