This neoclassical figural centerpiece, made in early 20th-century Poland by the Plewkiewicz manufactory, combines silver-plated pewter and brass with pressed glass. The base is a substantial, circular form with a stepped profile and decorative engraved borders, providing architectural structure. At its heart stands a sculpted griffin (or sphinx) with finely detailed wings and classical features, supporting the glass bowl above. The glass is clear with a soft green tint, intensifying to a vivid translucent green along the ruffled, undulating rim. Its hobnail-textured surface and lustrous finish create a distinct contrast with the matte, slightly patinated metalwork. The overall style is distinctly neoclassical, featuring mythological motifs and balanced proportions characteristic of early 20th-century European decorative arts. The condition is very good, with minor signs of age and use, but no major damage or cracks. All elements appear authentic and original.This centerpiece brings to mind the atmosphere of refined salons from over a century ago. The sculpted griffin, like a guardian of the hearth, tells of the early 20th-century fascination with antiquity and mythology, themes that permeated European interiors of the era.
