ABOUT PRODUCTID 19683
This figural toothpick holder in the shape of a pig was made in Vienna at the end of the 19th century. Sculpted from bronze, gilded on the outside and silvered inside, it features a removable oval glass insert. The anatomically accurate pig shows fine artisan detail—expressive snout, modeled ears and hooves, with carefully rendered folds and harmonious proportions. Its color palette spans warm medium bronze with natural patina, blending golden-brown with darker, slightly greenish hues; the finish is semi-matte with a gentle polish on the reliefs. The practical glass insert allows easy cleaning and functional use, while the solid build and well-shaped feet ensure stability. It is preserved in very good condition: light surface wear and delicate patina confirm its age, with no visible restorations or major damages. This miniature object seems to evoke late 19th-century Vienna with a hint of playful wit and refined craftsmanship, turning an everyday utensil into a sculptural collectible. The pig's posture, frozen in a fleeting smile, subtly alludes to the gentle irony and attention to detail characteristic of its era. The interplay of gold-brown and deeper aged highlights across its surface marks the slow passage of time—summoning images of elegant table settings in Central Europe where such little treasures carried both utility and quiet charm. It may be displayed alongside a collection of 19th-century curios on a classic sideboard or placed individually atop a polished walnut chest to highlight its form and materials. The piece pairs well with traditional tableware and also as a whimsical accent in modern, eclectic interiors—it would suit compositions with glass, brass, or porcelain objects, drawing out the softness and muted metallic accents of its patinated bronze surface.
