The porcelain figurine 'Girl with a Basket' was created in 1957 at the Ćmielów Porcelain Factory, designed by Zbigniewa Śliwowska-Wawrzyniak. This slender, stylized young woman stands in a long, form-fitting dress, holding an integrated basket at her side. The porcelain surface is highly glazed in a warm white, with bold, hand-painted vertical stripes in vivid yellow and deep black that create a dynamic, modernist pattern—an emblem of the Polish 'New Look' of the 1950s. The neckline and shoulders are accentuated with matte black, while graphic brushstrokes define the hair, and the facial features are rendered with fine lines and a gentle blush. The construction is seamless, with a round, stable base marked with the manufacturer’s signature and inscriptions beneath the glaze. The piece is preserved in very good condition, free from chips, cracks, or any signs of repair. This figurine encapsulates the spirit of 1950s Polish design—a time when postwar optimism merged with a drive for modernity. Its elongated proportions and bold color contrasts evoke an era of experimentation with form and palette, as if the porcelain figure were channeling the breath of an age when applied art became a declaration of contemporary life. In the hand-painted lines and subtle facial expression, one senses the artistic courage of the period
