ABOUT PRODUCTID 15419
This Swedish hand-carved wooden figure from the early 20th century embodies the regional folk craftsmanship of Scandinavia. Depicting a standing man with stylized, expressive proportions—oversized hands, short, stout legs, and a sharply faceted coat—the sculpture is carved probably from pine and finished in a warm, medium brown with a subtle semi-gloss that enhances the natural wood grain. The surface bears visible tool marks and a slightly rough texture, particularly noticeable on the coat and face. Hand-painted black details accentuate the hair, mustache, shoes, and hat, while touches of red highlight the lips and the tie or scarf under the coat's collar. The simple block base, also wooden, gives stability and underscores the handcrafted character. A discreet coin slot at the back reveals its secondary use as a money box. There are no visible damages—this piece has survived in very good condition, with minor, even surface rubbing that testifies to its age and authenticity. The sculpture reflects an era when simplicity and unvarnished craftsmanship governed everyday objects. In Sweden around the turn of the 20th century, such figures inhabited homes as guardians of daily life or humble keepers of coins. The exposed grain and tool marks narrate the story of a maker who valued authenticity above embellishment—each facet and brush of paint evoking the quiet diligence of rural workshops set amid northern forests. This object could be placed on a low sideboard, a library shelf, or amidst other artifacts of Nordic folk art. It pairs well with natural linen textiles, rustic-glazed ceramics, or simple wooden frames, adding individual character to folk
