This glass sculpture, shaped as a stylized fish, is a design by Josef Rozinek and Stanislav Honzik, executed by the Exbor glassworks in Novy Bor at the end of the 1950s. Crafted from substantial crystal glass using a sun-shading gradient technique, hot-forming, and precise grinding, the piece features a color transition from warm amber-brown through olive green to pale yellow and clear glass. The most intense colors appear at the dorsal area and tail, blending into more transparent, greenish hues at the belly and head. Its surface is highly polished and glossy, emphasizing the smooth, organic lines of the body and the sharply defined, geometric tail fin. Inside, a single air bubble adds depth, while the heavy, thick glass conveys a sense of solidity. The absence of visible seams or joints attests to the high level of craftsmanship. The condition is excellent, with no chips, cracks, or signs of wear. The form of this sculpture embodies the spirit of 1960s modernism, when glass artists sought new ways to interpret nature through abstraction and color experimentation. The fish is not rendered literally – its rounded, sculpturally simplified body and expressive tail reflect the biomorphic design language popular in postwar Central Europe. The glass, refracting and transmitting light, creates an illusion of movement, as if capturing a fragment of sunlight beneath the water’s surface. The harmonious color transitions evoke the changing
