This Carstens Tönnieshof floor vase from the 1960s is a striking example of West German mid-century modern ceramics. The form is tall and cylindrical (height: 50 cm, diameter: 17 cm), with a subtly tapering neck and a broad, lightly flared rim. Made of ceramic, the surface is finished in a high-gloss glaze that intensifies the interplay of mustard yellow, olive green, and vivid turquoise blue bands. The blue bands encircle the body at regular intervals and are decorated with a repeating relief of raised circular dots, while the yellow-olive areas feature geometric patterns of intersecting lines and diamonds, creating a clearly tactile, three-dimensional effect. The original 'EUROPA' label at the neck underscores the vase’s authenticity. The proportions are well-balanced, and the decorative motifs are rhythmically spaced, in keeping with the structured spirit of mid-century design. The overall condition is very good, with the glaze retaining its depth and brilliance; only minor signs of use are visible, such as small glaze chips at the rim. This vase carries the voice of the 1960s, an era when German ceramics dared to embrace bold color and sculptural surface relief. Its body tells the story of a time when geometry and vibrant hues were not merely decorative but a celebration of optimism and everyday beauty. The glossy glaze and raised ornamentation capture and reflect light like fragments of an abstract painting—this is a piece that confidently draws the eye while remaining true to the restraint of modernist aesthetics. As a floor vase, it can stand alone against a pale wall or be paired with wood—teak, walnut, or other darker tones will enhance its saturated palette. It also works well on a low console table, grouped with other ceramics, glass, or metal accents. In a mid-century modern interior or an eclectic vintage collection, this vase coordinates beautifully with geometric textiles and minimalist
