ABOUT PRODUCTID 1891
This centerpiece bowl, designed by Jozef Hospodka and hand-formed at the Chribska glassworks around 1960, exemplifies Czech mid-century modernism. The vessel takes on a dynamic, floral-inspired shape: six pronounced arms rise gracefully upward, creating a sculptural outline reminiscent of a blooming flower. The primary color is a deep emerald green, encapsulated within a thick layer of clear glass, producing a sense of depth and luminous interplay; the green is most intense at the base, subtly fading into transparency toward the outer 'petals.' The surface is highly glossy and smooth, with a precisely ground and polished underside ensuring stability. Dimensions: height 15.5 cm, diameter 32.5 cm. There are no signs of wear or damage—the bowl is preserved in excellent condition. This piece resonates with the vitality of Central European modernism: the glass, shaped by the craftsman’s hand, conjures the energy and spontaneity of the 1960s, when color and light became vehicles for artistic expression. The thick, radiant glass appears to capture a fragment of daylight, while the organic form hints at a dialogue with nature and the exuberance of floral motifs. This bowl could tell of an era of formal daring and experiment, where craftsmanship met the artist’s vision. The bowl may be displayed as a focal point on a living room table or sideboard—its sculptural silhouette harmonizes with modern, light-toned surfaces and the clean lines of mid-century furniture. It could be paired with other pieces of art glass or minimalist ceramics to emphasize its organic qualities, or set against warm-toned wood to bring out the depth of its color. It works both as a standalone statement and within a collector’s arrangement where interplay between forms and eras is key.
