This rectangular fruit container from 1920s Germany exemplifies refined craftsmanship from the transitional period between late Art Nouveau and early Art Deco. The body, made of silver-plated brass, is finished in a cool, silvery tone with a subtle, local patina. The surface is predominantly matte, with gentle, isolated highlights on the flat lid and sharply geometric handle that accentuate the architectural lines of the design. A wide, high-relief frieze encircles the body, depicting grape clusters and large, textured vine leaves with darkened recesses that enhance their three-dimensional quality.
