ABOUT PRODUCTID 2838
This set of 12 fruit knives is displayed on a figural stand shaped as a 16th-century knight’s helmet, crafted from pewter and brass by the Viennese workshop of Albrecht Kohler around 1900. The matte pewter gray, enriched with a uniform patina, emphasizes the object’s age, while the intricate, engraved scrollwork and historicist motifs evoke the Renaissance and Gothic Revival influences of the period. The helmet features a detailed openwork visor and a trio of feather plumes at the rear, all rendered in textured pewter; warm, satin-finished brass accents on the visor and plume mount offer a subtle contrast. The accompanying knives, dating from the 1920s, display polished silver-toned blades and handles with vertical fluting and delicate decorative rings, all in very good condition with consistent patina and no visible damage or repairs. The set carries the spirit of Vienna’s fin de siècle, a time when reverence for the past intertwined with refined craftsmanship and a collector’s eye for the extraordinary. The knight’s helmet, firmly rooted on its base, seems to recount a fascination with the medieval, infusing everyday rituals with a theatrical gesture. The precision of the workmanship and sculptural detail transform the ensemble into more than mere cutlery—a domestic stage where each knife becomes a ceremonial prop. Displayed atop a dark wood console or within a classic glass-fronted cabinet, this set can become a focal point, sparking conversation about history and artisanal skill. It pairs well with eclectic interiors where antiques, historicist accents, and contemporary elements coexist. Consider placing it alongside turn-of-the-century porcelain, lead glassware, or other objects evoking the art of the table;
