ABOUT PRODUCTID 11673
This figural fruit knife stand, crafted from silver-plated brass and attributed to Fraget in Warsaw in the late 19th century, embodies the spirit of eclectic historicism. Its sculptural form depicts a fantastical dragon or sea creature, characterized by an expressive head with stylized whiskers, muscular clawed feet, pronounced scales, and a coiled tail. The upper section resembles an openwork, fan-shaped shell with organically elongated slots for knives, while the lower part rests on two feet and a tail, all rendered with intricate ribbing and textural details. The cool, silvery-gray surface with a uniform patina accentuates the relief work and the quality of the material. The construction is seamless with no visible joints, and the piece stands firmly on three points. The condition is described as good: there are subtle signs of age, a gentle patina, and light surface wear, with no damage or repairs. This object carries the voice of late 19th-century Warsaw, when Fraget’s creations defined table culture and ceremonial hospitality. The dragon’s imaginative silhouette, with its fluid lines and refined anatomical details, evokes the atmosphere of grand gatherings, where the table setting was as significant as the ritual of serving fruit. Silvery highlights across the scales and limbs animate the form, as if the creature hovers between fantasy and reality, bringing with it echoes of Orientalism, naturalism, and emerging Art Nouveau. The stand may serve as a decorative accent in a classic or eclectic living room, emphasizing a collector’s interior. It could be paired with other silver or metal accessories from the era, porcelain, or organically shaped glassware. It also works well against dark wood, richly woven fabrics, or on walls in deep, saturated hues—as a singular
