ABOUT PRODUCTID 19482
This early 20th-century fruit tray, produced by German manufacturer WMF, exemplifies the mature Art Nouveau style. Crafted from silver-plated brass, it possesses an organic, rectangular form with softly undulating edges that merge seamlessly into a rich floral relief. The prevailing shade is patinated, warm silver accented with golden-bronze tones along the raised details and edges; a satin matte surface contrasts with subtle shine on the highest reliefs. The handle, shaped as a winding branch with a leaf, complements the naturalistic character and serves as both a functional and decorative element. The tray’s surface is smooth to the touch, interspersed with pronounced, at times raised, plant motifs, and the coherence of its construction attests to the artistry of the maker. Throughout, original discolorations, mild corrosion, and areas of silver plating loss are visible – authenticating its original state, free from contemporary restoration. Condition is good: patina and local wear align naturally with the aging process typical of Art Nouveau metals. The tray channels the spirit of the early 1900s – a moment when nature inspired creativity and floral ornamentation stood at the heart of design. Gold-silver reflections across the relief echo the Art Nouveau fascination with natural vitality, while rounded shapes draw attention to softness and movement. The patinated surface, marked by time, offers a dignified restraint, as if the twining leaves and vines endure unchanged from an era when domestic objects became
