ABOUT PRODUCTID 1918
This hand-formed glass bowl, designed by Jaroslav Beranek for the Skrdlovice glassworks in Czechoslovakia, is an example of artistic glass from the early 1960s. Crafted from thick, multicolored glass—predominantly in warm amber-gold tones, subtly blending into accents of green and clear glass—the bowl features a highly glossy, almost mirror-like surface that accentuates the depth of its hues. Its form is organic and irregular, with undulating, asymmetrical edges and tangible evidence of handwork, characteristic of mid-century modern aesthetics. The substantial thickness of the walls gives it a notable weight, while the carefully polished flat base demonstrates attention to finishing details. The bowl is preserved in excellent condition, free from chips or signs of wear. The Skrdlovice bowl evokes the spirit of the 1960s, when Czech art glass achieved international acclaim through bold experiments with color and form. Each shade appears to be captured in motion, as if the glass has imprisoned a fleeting play of light and color. Its organic lines and flowing geometry tell the story of an age when designers sought harmony between nature and modernity. This piece carries the voice of its era—a bold yet understated testament to unique craftsmanship. Such a bowl could become a focal point on a console or low coffee table, where natural light accentuates its iridescent color transitions. It may be combined with other 1960s art glass objects, ceramics with simple forms, or minimalist metal accessories. Interiors in the mid-century modern spirit or eclectic collector’s spaces would highlight its sculptural quality; it would also work well as an accent against light, neutral surfaces, allowing its form and palette full expression.
