ABOUT PRODUCTID 2013
This glass centerpiece, designed by Jaroslav Beranek for the Skrdlovice glassworks, exemplifies Czech art glass from the 1960s. The piece is hand-formed from multicolored glass—predominantly warm amber, seamlessly blending into olive green and touches of yellow at the base and edges. Its organic, asymmetrical shape is defined by undulating, wavy edges and thick, rounded borders. The bowl has a low, wide profile; the glass is highly translucent, with a glossy, polished finish that accentuates the interplay and depth of color. The base is ground flat for stability. Dimensions are 9 cm high, 27 cm long, and 16 cm wide. The condition is excellent—there are no signs of damage, scratches, or visible wear. This centerpiece carries the spirit of Central European modernism, where craftsmanship met artistic freedom. The glass, shaped by the movement of the glassmaker's hand, retains the fluidity of the 1960s—a decade when Czech glassworks experimented with color and organic forms. Each curve, color gradient, and softened edge tells the story of an era when everyday objects acquired sculptural qualities; it echoes the dialogue between nature and geometry so characteristic of postwar Czech design. The bowl can be displayed on an oak sideboard or a marble surface where light will accentuate its variegated colors and elegant ripples. It pairs well with minimalist, mid-century modern furnishings, but also finds its place in eclectic, collector-oriented interiors—arranged alongside 1960s ceramics or a simple metal lamp, it highlights a conversation between materials and hues. It may serve as a decorative accent in a living room, on a coffee table or console, where its organic form becomes a visual focal point.
