ABOUT PRODUCTID 23857
This goblet, designed by Zbigniew Horbowy for Huta Szkła “Sudety” in 1971, stands as an example of Polish modernist glassware. Made from solid-colored soda glass, the piece features a striking antico-style gradient: the bowl glows in a saturated amber-yellow, smoothly fading into a cool celadon green along the slender stem and broad, stable foot. The surface is glossy and mirror-like, enhancing the depth and vibrancy of the color, while tiny air bubbles within the glass attest to its hand-blown origin. Its proportions are elongated and minimalist, echoing the modernist approach of the 1970s – clean lines, no decorative additions, a focus on color and the play of light. The goblet remains in very good condition, free from visible wear, damage, or restoration. This object embodies the spirit of Polish modernism – speaking in the language of an era that sought newness through simplicity. Its embedded colors recall a period when Zbigniew Horbowy experimented with hue and light, creating objects that were both functional and charged with the energy of form. The smooth surface reflects light, while the shifting color gradient moves like the changing mood of the day – from the warmth of amber to the coolness of celadon. The goblet becomes a quiet narrative of craftsmanship, where every detail – from the subtle color transition to the elongated silhouette – holds meaning. The goblet can be displayed alongside other period glassware to create a collector’s arrangement on a console or in a showcase. It would work well in minimalist mid-century modern interiors as well as more eclectic
