This Art Nouveau desk lamp was created around 1920 in Austria by Casinos Austria. The structure is crafted from chromed brass with a smooth, polished surface. Its distinctive semi-dome shade is made from layered glass: the exterior features a deep, emerald green with a glossy finish, while the interior is white, producing a striking contrast. The shade is mounted on a movable joint and secured with screws, carrying the manufacturer’s signature on the rear. The arm is fitted with a cylindrical, light-colored Bakelite handle. The entire lamp stands on a heavy, round base with an integrated white rotary switch. All components remain in their original state, with only minor patina consistent with the lamp’s age. The lamp’s form evokes the early 20th-century atmosphere, when light served to create mood as much as to illuminate. The deliberate geometry, interplay of glass and metal, and adjustable joints suggest a balance between craftsmanship and functionality.
