This handwoven rug, crafted from pure wool and measuring 150 × 250 cm, originates from the Midelt region at the foot of the Moroccan Atlas Mountains. Its construction features a robust base of matte black covering the upper and left sections, contrasted by a central field with an irregular checkerboard in black and ivory. The right side is illuminated by horizontal stripes in shades of orange, yellow, turquoise, pink, light green, and beige, interwoven with neutral ivory tones. A thick, soft high-pile and short natural wool fringes emphasize the authenticity of the craft. The geometry and vibrant colors draw on mid-century modern influences while preserving tribal motifs. Clearly visible hand-knotting and subtle variations in the pattern attest to the unique character of each piece. The interplay of deep black and vivid hues creates a visual rhythm echoing mountain landscapes and the graphic energy of the mid-twentieth century. The high, resilient pile invites touch, while the irregularities in the pattern record the artisan’s hand.
