The Beni Mrirt rug, handmade in Morocco, is crafted from densely woven, high-quality wool. Its soft, matte surface features abstract black geometric motifs set against an ivory background, framed by broad taupe-grey bands at the top and bottom. The central field is marked by two bold, totemic figures, while the dense weave and subtly irregular finish reveal visible hand-knotting. Short, knotted fringes complete the edges and the 150 x 250 cm proportions create an elongated, balanced rectangle. The rug’s form creates a dialogue between raw geometry and the softness of natural fibers. The contrast of black and ivory references Berber symbolism, introducing a graphic rhythm without austerity. Subtle speckling and irregular texture underscore the artisanal character, merging the artist’s gesture with time-honored craft. The pattern evokes modernist abstraction while remaining rooted in tactile tradition.
