This handwoven Berber rug from the Midelt region of Morocco (approx. 200 x 300 cm) is crafted from natural wool on a cotton foundation. The pile is dense and plush with a matte finish, giving it a substantial yet soft texture. Its composition features asymmetrical geometric blocks and arches, intersected by black-and-white stripes and fine black lines, forming a bold, graphic arrangement. The color palette includes warm terracotta orange, cobalt blue, magenta pink, deep black, ivory, and accents of brown and cream. The lower edge is adorned with short natural wool fringes that reinforce the handcrafted origin. Each rug is individually woven by skilled artisans, resulting in subtle variations in pattern and proportion that reflect its authenticity and uniqueness. The rug’s design draws on the imagination of Moroccan craftspeople, merging abstraction with regional symbolism. The interplay of motifs evokes ancient ornamentation and geometric wall decorations found in kasbahs, while the saturated colors conjure the impression of dawn over the desert landscape.
