This photo frame, dating from 1870–1890 and originating in the former Austro-Hungarian Empire, is crafted from guilloché-engraved, gilded brass with white enamel detailing. Its silhouette takes the form of a heraldic shield, with a finely worked halberd forming an integral part of the composition. Rich ornamentation includes vegetal motifs in white enamel and symmetrically arranged cabochon stones: deep red glass, turquoise, and pale blue gems. The central photo opening is elliptical, bordered by a beveled brass frame; the back features a movable stand for tabletop display. Measuring 16.5 × 13.5 × 9 cm, the frame holds a photograph sized 5 × 7.5 cm. It is preserved in very good condition for its age, displaying only gentle scratches and a delicate patina, with no major damage or signs of restoration. This object carries the spirit of the late 19th century—a period enamored with historicism and a romantic return to earlier styles. The shield and halberd evoke medieval inspirations, while the carefully set stones and guilloché brass reveal the artisanal precision of the era.
