ABOUT PRODUCTID 30720
This highboard/bar secretary cabinet with a top unit, produced in Czechoslovakia in the 1970s, exemplifies the modernist design ethos of the Eastern Bloc era. The structure features clean geometric lines: a lower cabinet with doors, a central open shelf, and an upper section with a drop-down bar or secretary compartment, forming clearly defined functional zones. The cabinet is finished in a warm, honey-toned wood veneer with pronounced grain, giving it an organic and lively appearance. The semi-gloss lacquered surface subtly reflects light, enhancing its minimalist character. The slender, round legs gently taper and are capped with black accents, visually lifting the piece and adding a contemporary note. Construction uses veneered plywood or particleboard for the body and solid wood for the legs; joinery is visible with legs attached by screws. The absence of decorative hardware draws attention to the form and pure utility. The cabinet is preserved in very good condition, with minor signs of age and a small chip on the side.
This piece carries the voice of 1970s Czechoslovak modernism—a narrative of practicality and a search for harmony. The warm veneer evokes the memory of home interiors where every object had its place. The simple, functional silhouette tells of an era when design was meant to bring order to daily life, while the subtle lacquer sheen softly catches the light, echoing the past. The black detail
