ABOUT PRODUCTID 4938
The 'Ikebana' vase, model 'ogród 538', was designed by Jan Sowiński in 1963 and produced by the Włocławek Faience Factory. Crafted from glazed faience in a cool, pastel blue hue with a glossy finish, the piece is defined by its flattened, disc-like silhouette and central cylindrical neck—a form conceived for arranging floral compositions in the Japanese manner. The upper surface features two concentric, lighter blue-white bands with subtly raised, organic textures, each band punctuated by regularly spaced holes. These openings serve both a decorative and functional purpose, allowing precise placement of stems. The manufacturer's mark 'WŁOCŁAWEK | 538' is present on the underside. Measuring 11.5 cm in height and 26 cm in diameter, the vase is preserved in excellent vintage condition—its glaze remains even and lustrous, with no visible damage or restoration. This vase speaks with the voice of 1960s Polish modernism, an era when utility and formal clarity intertwined with understated ornamentation. The cool blue palette and geometric simplicity evoke the spirit of postwar artistic innovation, where everyday objects opened up to global influences while remaining rooted in local craftsmanship. The punctured openings, like small portals, invite a dialogue with nature—allowing flowers to fan out freely and light to dance across the glossy faience surface. The piece recalls a time when Polish ceramics embraced modern forms and colors, preserving the tactile skill of the artisan. The vase is suited not
