ABOUT PRODUCTID 41974
This illuminated globe from 1960s Czechoslovakia is a decorative object that harmoniously blends educational and visual functions. The sphere is crafted from molded plastic in a pastel turquoise-blue, with continents and borders highlighted by soft yellow, pale green, and muted pink accents. Its matte surface contrasts with the subtly glossy, transparent meridian ring, marked with precise graduations. The globe sits atop a dark gray plastic base with a gentle sheen, set on a brown, wood-like plastic plinth, creating a characteristic two-tone effect of the modernist era. The proportions are balanced, the silhouette streamlined, and details such as seamless joints and an integrated base reflect careful craftsmanship. It retains its original electrical fitting with an EU plug, providing internal illumination. The piece is preserved in very good condition, showing no signs of wear, cracks, or discoloration. This globe echoes a time when education and modern design moved hand in hand, and everyday objects became subtle ambassadors of progress. The pastel colors and gentle glow when illuminated evoke the atmosphere of the 1960s—a period marked by optimism, exploration, and global curiosity. The rhythm of continents unfolding across the matte sphere recalls an era when the world felt both accessible and mysterious. The globe would be well-placed on a desk in a home office or on a shelf in the living room, where it adds a touch of nostalgia and soft ambient light. It is equally suitable for a children's room as an inspiring piece for learning and bedtime reading. It can be paired with mid-century wooden accessories, minimalist table lamps, or a collection of travel books. Interiors with vintage, modernist, or eclectic character would allow its charm to be fully appreciated, especially when complemented by muted textiles and geometric forms.
