ABOUT PRODUCTID 14369
An original Polish informational sign reading 'GAŚNICA' ('FIRE EXTINGUISHER'), produced in the late 1970s and early 1980s at the Nowy Ląd Niwnice Gypsum and Anhydrite Mine. The rectangular plate, measuring 38 x 14 cm and 0.2 cm thick, is made from thin, painted steel. The base is a matte, deep industrial red, typical of public safety signage of the era. The central area features a cream-white matte panel, over which bold, black stencil lettering is applied—characterized by uneven handwork and subtle paint losses. The design omits all ornamentation or mounting features, reflecting the pragmatic, no-nonsense visual language of late Polish socialism. Surface wear includes scuffs, local paint chipping, and small rust spots, particularly along the edges and corners. Condition: good, with expected traces of prolonged use—minor dents and scratches consistent with the sign's age and original industrial context. Both the restraint of form and the robust material evoke the austere atmosphere of Polish industry, where every sign served both a functional and visual purpose. The sign is a fragment of the era’s story: a declaration of safety, a mark of factory discipline, and an artefact of socialist design thinking. Today, it offers a tangible link to the aesthetics of 20th-century Eastern Bloc workplaces, not only as utilitarian design but as a piece of authentic industrial heritage. This sign could be incorporated into a contemporary loft interior, where such industrial relics complement exposed brickwork or concrete. It can be arranged with utilitarian lighting, steel shelving, tool displays, or posters in a matching palette. For collectors, it serves as a feature in a wall gallery of vintage signage or graphic art from the socialist era, introducing an authentic note to interiors influenced by industrial or mid-century vintage styles.
