ABOUT PRODUCTID 24004
This Biedermeier crystal inkwell, dating from around 1830, is a testament to Central European craftsmanship of the early 19th century, produced in Austria. The piece is made from faceted crystal glass in a saturated azure blue tone, characterized by its octagonal base and pyramid-shaped, also faceted lid—both reflecting the Biedermeier era’s preference for geometric clarity and restrained elegance. The inkwell is adorned with a gilded brass mount, which acts as a hinge and rim for the lid, finely engraved with subtle lines. Its dimensions are 6 cm in height and 3.6 cm in diameter. The crystal surface is smooth and highly polished, enhancing both color depth and the play of light on its facets. The golden brass mount and geometric silhouette highlight the object’s understated refinement. The condition is very good—the glass shows no damage, and the brass fitting exhibits only minimal patina, indicative of careful preservation.Within this compact form lies a trace of 19th-century bourgeois rituals: the inkwell, created in a time that valued daily order, also carries a touch of refinement and luminosity. The azure crystal not only reflected light but also the spirit of an era seeking harmony between function and beauty. Gilded details tell of a craftsman’s hand that favored modest decoration and the subtle interplay of light on crystal. Each act of opening the lid could echo the ritual of reading letters—a reminder of the written word’s culture and the dignified rituals of everyday life. The inkwell could be displayed on a classic walnut or mahogany writing desk, alongside smooth writing accessories or collectible fountain
